Congratulations, bar candidates!

Congratulations, bar candidates! You have completed the most difficult exam in the nation. You have worked hard. You have spent months studying under high stress. You should be very proud. Best wishes from all of us at BarWrite® and BarWrite Press!

A Happy Networking Story

Here’s a wonderful story I heard from a recent law graduate I ran into at--get ready--a networking reception. I've changed some details to protect his anonymity. When I originally met him two years ago, this young man was about to graduate from a local law school, where he had done everything right.

I said, “How did that job in [making up name of state] Arkansas work out?”

Turned out he graduated, he took the bar exam, he moved, the law firm he went to work for in that other state had trouble, and the job disappeared. At that point, he had been gone from New York for ten months, and his girlfriend was getting restive. He was one unattractive guy.

So he came back to New York to look for work. Because he couldn’t get the internet in his apartment, he started going to Starbucks every day with his laptop. He sat there sending out resumes. Next to him was a musician, also sending out resumes.

The musician said, “Hey, I know some lawyers, maybe they need help.”

Finally our hero got one of those lawyers on the phone. She needed help part-time. Then the lawyer’s office manager quit, so he became office manager. Then she needed an associate, so he moved into being an associate.

What a happy ending.

And if he had had the internet in his apartment, it would never have happened.

You’ve got to get out of the house!

Wait. One of my friends asked, "Did he help the musician?"

Another friend said, “The musician can play at the wedding.”
