According to the Associated Press, congratulations are in order for former Stanford Law School Dean Kathleen Sullivan, because she has passed the California State Bar examination on her second try.
Anyone who feels embarrassed or discouraged because he failed a bar exam should look to Sullivan's example. According to the AP, "Sullivan failed the state's three-day test to become licensed to practice law in California last year." We reported on that fact here. A month before she retook the exam, the California Supreme Court "removed her from the legal team in a $500 million licensing dispute because she had not yet passed the exam. . . ."
All's well that ends well, however, because Dean Sullivan passed the February test. Ms. Sullivan, who practiced for many years and has argued four cases before the United States Supreme Court, says she looks forward to practicing law in California.
Anyone who fails a bar exam can try again and pass, and then take the same attitude. Be like Kathleen Sullivan, say he or she is looking forward to practicing.
